Maria sat at the crowded bar sipping on an apple martini, hoping it would calm her nerves. First dates always made her nervous.
“Excuse me, is anyone sitting here?”
Maria turned to see a stunning brunette performing a balancing act with a purse in one hand and a glass in the other. It looked as though she’d been tossed about in the sea of people who were there unwinding from a hard day’s work. Maria smiled and motioned for her to join her, welcoming the distraction.
“I don’t know why my husband likes to eat at such crowded restaurants on the weekends.” She began straightening her disheveled clothing, before sitting down. “So, are you waiting for your husband too?”
“Oh, I’m not married, not yet anyway.” Maria blushed at the thought of Charles. “I’m waiting for my date.”
“Smart woman, enjoy being single while it lasts,” her companion said laughing…
